How we prepare your vehicle for paint protection
A high-quality ceramic coating or invisible Paint Protection Film (PPF) is an investment in the future of your car. However, the effectiveness of this protection depends on the surface. Impurities under a protective layer can reduce adhesion and dull the shine.
At WAX-IT, we do not believe in quick fixes. We opt for a method that brings the paintwork into absolute top condition, both technically and optically, so that the subsequent protection can perform optimally. Discover here how our detailed preparation lays the foundation for a result that will last for years:
Step 1: Deep cleaning of the wheels
We always start at the base: the wheels and wheel arches. Why first? Because these are the parts of the car that collect the most dirt. This prevents brake dust and dirt from splashing back onto the paintwork that has already been cleaned in the previous steps.
Taking off the wheels
For a 360° deep clean, the wheels are always taken off.
Wheel arches and rims:
Stubborn dirt and mud are removed from even the smallest corners.
Tyres:
We clean the tyres so that subsequent coatings adhere optimally.
Step 2: Decontaminate and wash
A regular wash is not enough for high-end protection. During this phase, we strip the paintwork of everything that does not belong there – without damaging the paintwork, of course. After a pre-wash that loosens all the dirt, we can safely get to work.
Chemical decontamination
We use specific products to remove contamination such as iron particles (fly rust) and tar residues during washing.
Mechanical decontamination:
Better known as “claying”. A technique for removing the last stubborn contamination.
Contact wash:
Only when most of the dirt has been removed can a safe hand wash be carried out using the three-bucket method to remove the last traces of dirt.
Step 3: Paint correction
Before applying the protective coating, the paintwork must be perfect. Now that all the dirt has been removed, we start polishing to smooth out swirls, small scratches and dull spots.
To measure is to know.
We always start with a paint thickness measurement. This allows us to determine exactly how much margin we have to work safely.
Polishing to order:
Depending on the condition of the paintwork, we carry out 1 to 3 polishing steps. From a coarse cut to remove deeper scratches to an ultra-fine finish for that typical mirror shine.
The result
This thorough preparation is the first phase of every treatment in our studio. By technically and chemically purifying the paintwork, we create the only correct basis for maximum adhesion of your coating or PPF.
The result is a car that not only exceeds showroom quality, but is now also optimally prepared to maximize the performance of the subsequent protective layer. This ensures you get the deep mirror shine and durability you would expect from a high-end WAX-IT treatment.
