Ceramic Coating: What to Expect (and What Not to Expect)

You've decided to have a coating applied to your car, but what can you really expect? 

At WAX-IT, we use Gyeon Infinite EVO Coatings. These coatings are liquids that, once fully crystallized, transform into a solid, transparent, and highly self-cleaning protective layer that bonds with your paint.


What can you expect? (The benefits)

A coating transforms the way you look at your car and how you maintain it. The three biggest benefits are:

  1. Self-Cleaning & Convenience: Thanks to the coating's incredibly smooth surface, dirt, dust, and road salt barely catch on. Your car stays cleaner longer, and washing becomes a breeze.
  2. Deep shine & UV protection: The paint achieves a shine that's often more beautiful than when it left the factory. Moreover, the coating prevents oxidation from UV rays, keeping your color fresh for years to come.
  3. Chemical resistance: Once cured, the coating can only be removed mechanically (by polishing). It provides a barrier against harsh chemicals and bird droppings that would otherwise immediately corrode your paint.


What shouldn't you expect? (Setting expectations)

Although a coating is often marketed as something magical, it's not indestructible armor. To avoid disappointment, we'd like to offer some transparency:

  1. No protection against stone chips: A coating is wafer-thin. For protection against stone chips or parking damage, PPF (Paint Protection Film) is the only solution.
  2. Not 100% scratch-free: A coating helps prevent light scratches because dirt comes off more easily, but improper washing can still cause scratches (swirls). This is especially true if you drive your car through a car wash.
  3. Hydrophobicity vs. protection: Those spectacular water droplets (beading) are beautiful, but they're a byproduct. If the beading diminishes over time, it doesn't mean your paint is no longer protected. The protective layer is still deep within the pores of the paint. You can boost the beading again with specific maintenance products.
